Days 26, 27, 28, and 29

OOPS! Sorry guys, no pictures. My camera's batteries have gone 'ka-put' and I haven't replaced them yet. But  I will get some as soon as I can!

Day 24: Work Work Work

We all want to do our best in school. One way we can do that is by doing our work to the best of our abilities (no short-cuts) and turning it in to the teacher so it can be graded. Then you can view how well you did and share it with people at home. Be proud of your work...your grades will prove how hard you worked!

Day 23: Which Are You?

Which one are you? Are you a sharp student or a dull student? A sharp student is one who is alert, pays attention, asks questions that are about the lesson, knows what's going on around them, and takes care of their work. A dull student is one who doesn't like to participate in class discussions, finds objects at their desk more interesting than learning, is a little messy, doesn't know what's going on around them, and doesn't take care of their work. Congratulations to you if you consider yourself a sharp student. If you think you're more of a dull student it's not too late to get sharpened!

Day 22: Keeping It Clean

It's getting to be that time of year again! Sneezes, sniffles, and coughs. (We try) everyday to wipe our desk tops with a germ killing disinfecting cloth so we can stay as healthy as possible. The more you're in school the more you learn. And the more you learn the happier you'll be. None of us like being sick; so make sure that you stay home if you have a fever, use Kleenexes when you have a runny nose or sneeze (not the back of your hand!), and cough into the bend of your elbow. And don't forget to use hand sanitizer after you go to the bathroom, before you eat, and after you blow your nose. We want to do our part in keeping our school healthy as well as ourselves, family, and friends.

Day 21: The Library

                                        

Students love visiting our school library. There's so many worlds they are introduced to when they open a book. A lot of students like reading a certain series like The Magic Tree House, Harry  Potter, Junie B. Jones, and probably the most popular in my class, Goosebumps. I encourage you to venture into books that you normally wouldn't think you would like. Maybe you really like Junie B. Jones....then you should try reading the Amber Brown series. Or maybe you're a Harry Potter fan....try reading the Artemis Foul series. If you like Goosebumps you might like books by Peg Kerhet, the Hardy Boys series, or Nancy Drew series. If you like asking your friends, "Did you know....?" you should definitely read biographies and other books that give you facts. I try to read a book from every popular genre to my students because it never fails....they always are suprised to learn that they really like a certain kind of genre that they never would have chosen to read themselves.

Day 20: Pride

What do you take pride in? We're all proud of our school; you can tell from all the Panther shirts and by knowing our school fight song. But what else are you proud of? Are you proud of your family? Are you proud of what belongs to you? Are you proud of your friends? Mr. Spears talks about making the right choices every day. Stop to think about if you're proud of your choices. Not just the choices you make at school; like doing your work and turning it in on time, helping each other, or following rules, but also your choices at home; like doing chores when you're asked (or not asked), saying kind words to your family members, or showing respect; or the choices you make when you're out in public: like holding the door for someone even if their hands aren't full, having good behavior in front of strangers, or greeting people politely when you walk into a store. You will find out how much pride you can have in yourself when you're proud of what you do.

Day 19: The Plexer!

The Plexer....every student is curious about The Plexer. What is it? They are commonly used phrases but in puzzle form. I write a new one up there whenever the previous one is guessed correctly or goes for 3 days without being guessed. They really make the kids think at a higher level and they help them break words apart to find other familiar words. What is great is that it is helping them with reading skills! The students can't wait to tell me what their guess is, but I make them wait ALL DAY and then it's the "magic of the cards" that determines who guesses and in what order. Day 18: Graphs

We started our 1st graphs today. The kids really enjoy doing these (eventhough I get a few whines and moans). They start off fairly simple; it tells/shows what should be in each square and you have to transfer it onto the blank graph. They get progressively harder. Believe it or not the graphs are helping us look at one thing and copy it down to something else. We do something similar during Math and Reading when we work the problems together. All of this will help you when you get into 4th grade and beyond. Miss McHugh ALWAYS has a reason for doing what she does! ;)

Day 17: Lunch Lady Land

Today we had lasagna for lunch. What's your favorite lunch in the cafeteria? What's your favorite breakfast in the cafeteria? It's awesome that you have a school that can give you two meals a day. Our lunch ladies work real hard to make sure that you guys get food in your stomachs so be sure to thank them for all their hard work.

Day 16: EXTREEEEEEEME!!!!

Are you an extreme reader? I can tell that some of you are just by looking at how many A.R. points you have already! You guys are doing awesome getting those 15 points before the 9 weeks is up. Are you wondering if you're an extreme reader or not? This is how you will know: if you ask yourself questions about what you're reading then you're an EXTREME READER! If you can imagine the action of your story as you're reading then you're an EXTREME READER! If you can tell someone what your book was about then you're an EXTREME READER! And if you immediately get a new book as soon as you finish one and pass those A.R. tests then you, my friend, are the ULTIMATE EXTREME READER!!!
